The 2008 Summer Pre- Graduate Research Experience (SPGRE) Program is in its 20th year of offering undergraduate students throughout the country the opportunity to work full time on research projects under the direction of UNC-Chapel Hill faculty members. |

PROGRAM COMPONENTS back to top |
- 10-weeks of hands on research in the following disciplines: physical & computational sciences, social, behavioral, & economic sciences, and environmental sciences
- Working with UNC-CH faculty, postdoctoral fellows, or graduate students
- Special seminars related to research and graduate programs, a GRE preparatory workshop, and social activities
- Free on-campus housing provided
- Travel reimbursed up to $500.
- A stipend of $3,200 and a food allowance of $1,450
- Participation in the HT Frierson Research Symposium where you will present your research from the summer in poster and/or oral format.

- Students should show sincere interest in pursuing the Ph.D. degree
- Historically underrepresented minority students (defined by the NSF as African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander) are particularly targeted
- Preference given to students who have completed their junior year
- Those not eligible: Freshmen, students who have graduated before or during the program, and students not US citizens or permanent residents
